About This Workshop

In this 6-week workshop, we’ll conceptually explore the big ideas around building and extending number knowledge from kindergarten through 2nd grade. We’ll unpack the progression of learning as you build an understanding around the major concepts we tackle with our students including:

Module 1: Early Number and Counting

Module 2: Building Fluency through 20

Module 3: Building Fluency through 120

Module 4: Building Fluency through 1000

Module 5: Number and Measurement

Module 6: Number and Statistical Reasoning

Each module will feature 3 main components:

  1. Launch the Concept: We’ll work through a 3-act task. We’ll also anticipate and analyze student work samples within the progression of learning. The analysis of student work will set up the learning that is about to take place.
  2. Connecting & Extending our Thinking: We’ll engage in meaningful tasks supported by an instructional video that models how I would teach the lesson. Through modeling the task, teachers will understand how to harness these tasks and activities to move students through the progression of learning.
  3. Building Fluency: Once a conceptual understanding is developed, it’s critical that students build fluency. It is here where we’ll engage in meaningful practice that supports the understanding that was constructed earlier in the module.
