About This Workshop
If you struggle to get students to talk and share their thinking, then this workshop is for you!
Student voice is an important part of the learning process. It helps students to process ideas and to deepen their understanding. However, students do not always want to talk or share their thinking, a socially risky endeavor. So, how do we encourage our students’ voices and keep up with the long list of content we need to teach? How do we help students share their thinking and develop their argumentation?
Let's debate! Through debate, students are more engaged in conversations and are pushed to think more deeply. In this course, we will explore why debate can instantly get your students talking. We will explore examples of what this could look like in your classroom, looking at specific ideas for starting arguments while helping students feel safe expressing their thinking. We will explore specific routines and structures, from sentence starters to better questioning, that you can use to give ALL students a voice in their learning.
