About This Workshop

If you want to use Number Talks in your classroom and would like support to make sure they are more than a fun routine, this mini workshop is for you. You’ll feel confident using Number Talks, and your students will feel more excited than ever to share their ideas as mathematical conversations and student sense-making become a natural part of your classroom.

We’ll start by exploring what Number Talks are and why they're important. Next we’ll discuss how to get your class ready to do Number Talks and how to make sure your students are exploring meaningful mathematics during Number Talks. Then we’ll address how to handle wrong answers and strategies you don’t expect, as well as how to encourage reluctant students to share. Finally, we’ll look at how you can include Number Talks with what you’re already doing and make them a meaningful part of your classroom.
